" Willow Creek"

I had recently finished some commission work for the gentleman that owns this gully and creek area, and this painting was my "left over" view.   Willow Creek lies three or four miles south of Taughannock and you would never know that the forest hides an 80 foot and 30 foot waterfall on the property until you walk the gorge from Cayuga Lake back to route 89.   Anyway, after walking the property numerous times, and taking well over 100 photos over a 3 week period in the autumn of 2009,  I finished my 3 commissioned paintings.   While I was on the a Willow Creek roll, I decided to share it with all of you by doing one more painting.   I had great fun creating the foreground foliage and fallen leaves textures with masking and multiple watercolor washes, but my favorite part of this work is the ultramarine wash that comprises the distant gully and trees.    For those of you that like my autumn excursion into Willow Creek, please take a look at my Willow Creek Too painting.   It provides an upstream view of  this  land in a vertical composition.
