"Water Falls #3"
I'm always looking for new and different ways to represent the scenery of this
area. So I got this idea about doing a series of just the tops
of the Ithaca area waterfalls in a horizontal format. I wanted to
create a feel that you were looking up at the point of origin of that water.
In addition you get to inspected the trees and the rock formations at the top of
each waterfall gorge. To make the series even more interesting I
started each painting by placing blank paper on the easel and dropping light
watercolor washes down from the top of each gorge and letting them run pretty
much down over the length of the paper. Only after this was dry did I add
the details of the rocks, foliage, and water. This is the
third of the series: Buttermilk Falls.
