The meandering fence posts add a perfect foreground to the miles of lake and distant shores beyond.   Here we see Skaneateles from a southwestern hillside looking north toward the city which is barely visible near the center of the painting.   The cool purple hillsides provide a stark contrast to the warm burnt sienna of the remaining foliage in early November.
