" Morning Meeting"
One morning in the early winter I ventured up to Bristol Harbour. Their new addition had been competed earlier in the year and I hadn't wandered in yet. As I entered the huge room I was blown away by the winter light from the lake streaming into the room through the large wall of windows. Half a dozen people sat at one table with most of the other chairs stacked on the tables. The light reflected and echoed off the table tops and floors. This was a painting! One of the few that I have done (recently) with figures and from the inside a building. The lake, hillsides, floor and table tops were done with very free wet in wet watercolor... perfect for the portrayal of nature and light. Conversely, mankind, his structure, and seating conventions were rendered with a dark and precise calligraphic technique. This painting appeared in the 28th Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors in 2009.
