" Cayuga East Spring"
More new houses are trying to appear on the east side of the lake. At the crest of hill on route 34 in Lansing there are some new roads carved toward the lake. Spring was early this year with a warm spell starting things up in April. By May dandelions and new tree foliage was popping out everywhere, so I drove down to the base of one of these new roads and here's what I found. It seemed to have the makings of a nice spring painting of Cayuga. I started the painting by giving the sky that high cloudy look with a hint that there might be some springtime showers not so far away. The distant hillsides were rendered in wet washes with splashes of salt dropped in as they dried to suggest distant trees. The trees in mid ground provide a nice golden curtain for the distant lake and while the water marks in the lake itself do not show up very well in this small internet reproduction, they are my favorite part of this painting.
